As a native Washingtonian, Allen Cheaves learned at an early age from his parents the importance of community service and financial responsibility. Mr. Cheaves holds a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in Management Information Systems from Loyola University Maryland. As a professional, Allen earned several finance certifications including the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Series 6. Working for several national financial institutions and local investment firms, Mr. Cheaves successfully affected organizational change and improvement in the areas of banking, credit/risk analysis, and financial management.
Inspired to pay it forward, Allen is focused on community outreach and teaching financial literacy. In 2011, Mr. Cheaves founded Extra Credit Financial Solutions LLC (ECFS) dedicated to educating today’s children and adults on the fundamentals of personal finance, money management and professional development in the under-served and under-banked communities.
In 2018, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser appointed Mr. Cheaves to proudly serve as a Commissioner/ Financial Knowledge Member on The District of Columbia Financial Literacy Council and Co-Chairperson on the Student Affairs Committee. Allen truly believes in ECFS’ slogan of “Making a no-risk investment in financial futures.”
