Writer and Dance Event Boss Barbie Wharton is Today’s Honoree

I write and speak onstage about things that have happened to me and how I have grown from them. Depression, anxiety, Bells Palsy, major concussion in 2017.  My decision to take meds to help me through various stages, losing my “illusion” of what I thought my life “should” look like.

I was a dancer my whole life until about 18-ish, then went to school for business, as I always knew I would be an entrepreneur. I left a career in upper management after having my two boys, now teenagers, and started my own team apparel company with my sister, as well as working alongside her and my mom to create our event company as it is today.

In 2015, after about 10 years of being the “perfect” Barbie, having the “perfect” life doing all the “things” you do – perfect house, perfect career, perfect kids, perfect hostess, perfect perfect perfect – I woke up with Bell’s Palsy – half my face completely paralyzed. Living with it for the past 5 years has been a challenging lesson.
