Today’s Honoree for Wednesday August 26th is Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vilet

drleevlietDr. Vliet is the founder of Med Expert Chile, SpA, connecting patients to top tier, world-class medical care in Santiago, Chile. The 2014 Ellis Island Medal of Honor recipient for her national and international educational efforts in health, wellness, and endocrine aging in men and women, Dr. Vliet is recognized in the US as a powerful patient advocate, proponent of free market approaches to lower healthcare costs and a motivational speaker on health/wellness. She is also the recipient of The Voice of Women award from the Arizona Foundation for Women in recognition of her pioneering advocacy for the overlooked hormone connections in women’s health.

Dr. Vliet has appeared on FOX NEWS, Cavuto, Stuart Varney, Hannity and nationally syndicated radio shows across the USA. She has conducted hundreds of community education programs across the United States, and has presented scientific papers and keynote addresses at regional, national and international conferences, as well as a 2002 Congressional Briefing on hormone issues, and many Continuing Education courses for health professionals. Dr. Vliet served on the National Speaker’s Bureaus for Procter and Gamble, Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Bayer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Berlex, Forest Labs, and others.

Dr. Vliet received her B.S. and M.Ed.(Biology) degrees from The College of William and Mary, and her M.D. degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, with an internship in Internal Medicine. To pursue neuroendocrinology & mind-body medicine, she completed specialty training in Behavioral Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is board-certified by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Vliet is the author of five widely acclaimed health books: Screaming To Be Heard: Hormonal Connections Women Suspect– And Doctors Ignore; Women, Weight and Hormones; It’s My Ovaries, Stupid! The Savvy Woman’s Guide to Testosterone, The Savvy Woman’s Guide to PCOS. She is co-host of Tucson radio show, America’s Fabric, the host of Faith in Action weekly radio show, and the creator and host of the year-long Blog Talk Radio show, “Straight Talk about Hormones.”

Dr. Vliet’s medical practices in Arizona and Texas focus on preventive and climacteric medicine. Dr. Vliet’s unique medical work takes a “connect the dots” approach to evaluation/treatment of women and men with complex medical and hormonal problems affecting body and mind from puberty to menopause or andropause. Dr. Vliet’s clinical approaches integrate endocrine change effects on health problems such as prediabetes/insulin resistance, heart disease, sexual problems, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia/chronic pain, depression, anxiety, interstitial cystitis, vulvodynia, PCOS, headaches/migraines, memory loss and others.

Dr. Vliet is a Member of the International Menopause Society, the International Society of Gynecologic Endocrinology, The International Society for the Study of the Aging Male, the North American Menopause Society. Dr. Vliet is served as a Director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, on the Osteoporosis Advisory Board Alliance for Better Bone Health, Co-Coordinating Editor for Practical Reviews in Women’s Health (CME), Program Chair of the Southern Medical Association Preventive Medicine Conference (1993-95); and served on the Test Dev. Committee Part III for National Board of Medical Examiners.

Dr. Vliet’s past positions include Assistant Professor (Family Medicine) Eastern Virginia Medical School. As Director of Behavioral Medicine Program, she developed the Mind-Body Medicine curriculum for family physicians; Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at University of Kansas School of Medicine and developed the Mind-Body Medicine in Family Practice, Internal Medicine and Psychiatry; Director of Consultation-Liaison Services at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, and Consultant to the Kansas Regional Diabetes Center where her clinical work focused on relationship of glucose control to mood and cognitive function in diabetics; Medical Director of the Women’s Center at All Saints (DFW, TX); Women’s Health physician at Canyon Ranch to develop hormone and bone-density/osteoporosis assessment program, specialty consultations/seminars in Sexual Health Enhancement, Women’s Health, Pain Management; Medical DirectorWomen’s Program at Maryview Hospital- the first to integrate women’s endocrine-psychiatric health; and Associate Medical Director, Maryview Pain Management (in-patient program).
