The All State Foundation and Points of Light Volunteers are Today’s Honoree

AllStateA storm preparedness event will feature the Allstate Foundation and Points of Light as they travel to Wellington, FL, on their 14-city disaster preparedness tour and education campaign. During the June 6 event, to be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Mall at Wellington Green, 10300 W. Forest Hill Blvd. in Wellington, FL, members of the West Palm Beach community representing the Allstate Foundation and Points of Light will assist attendees in understanding the importance of disaster preparedness, and help them build a free disaster starter kit.

“Floridians are no strangers to the effects and aftermath of severe weather and natural disasters,” said Alexia Savage, VP of Communications & Resource Development United Way Palm Beach County. To strengthen this understanding, we will have a variety of hands-on activities as well as educational opportunities for those who come and visit us at the event.”

AllState1According to an Adelphi University study, nearly half of Americans lack emergency supplies for use in the event of a disaster. Also, this same study indicated more than half of parents do not have a designated meeting place in case of a disaster. Many families aren’t even aware of what an emergency kit should include and where you should store it in the household.

“The bottom line is simple, we must be prepared,” said Anne-Marie Batten, local Allstate agency owner. “Taking the time to learn about putting together a disaster preparedness kit that will help during some of the most difficult times in our lives is crucial. This tour and education campaign can affect so many in a positive way before the next tropical storm, hurricane or other unforeseen disaster.”

The disaster preparedness tour and education campaign will visit 14 cities throughout the United States including Oklahoma City; Springfield, MO; Houston; New Orleans; Cincinnati; Reston, VA; Seattle; Bergen County, NJ; Boston; Charleston, SC; Coney Island, NY; Oakland, CA; and Chicago. The tour and education campaign is produced by the Allstate Foundation and Points of Light.
