Melvin was born on April 4th, 1981 in Washington D.C., and now resides in Los Angeles. Known as Bernard on the HBO series “The Wire” and as The Bully on TheCW’s “Everybody Hates Chris.”
A young, talented actor, Melvin also does StandUp Comedy at venues around Los Angeles. He wrote a poetry Book, as well as several ScreenPlays. In his work as President and CEO of Urban Vision Entertainment, Melvin has collaborated on Film and Television Productions.
When asked “if you could only be known for one thing, what would it be?” Melvin replies “to be known as a great businessman, period.”
Melvin started in the entertainment business as a Model and Music Manager at the age of 19. He has creatively assisted Musical Recording Artists such as Tank, Tonya Blount, Jay-Z, Freeway & Benzino, and several others.
Melvin got into acting after auditioning for a Public Service Announcement piece. He has worked hard to hone his skills, over the years, and is pleased to be in productions big and small. “It’s all about the script,” he says.
He first booked a re-enactment role on Fox “America’s Most Wanted.” Then, in the first season of HBO’s “The Wire,” Melvin was an extra several times. He was determined to get on his favorite show, so when the next season came around he started submitting his headshot and resume. Melvin was called to audition but did not get the part. He auditioned 14 times before landing a part on “The Wire.”This was during his college years at Bowie State University, in Maryland, from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree!
After “The Wire,” Melvin landed a recurring role on TheCW’s “Everybody Hates Chris,” shortly after moving to Los Angeles. Chris Rock, whom the series is based on, directed the final episode of that season. This excited Melvin, being at the centerpiece of Film and Television Production in the United States. He remembered his days, as a kid, entertaining audiences in Stage Performances in Turkey and Pakistan–where his father was stationed.
Recently, Melvin can be seen in a leading role in the film “Five K One” with Clifton Powell & AJ Johnson. This production is now on DVD, available from Amazon.com A series-regular on the pilot “Blood Brothers” is currently ongoing. Melvin is actively sharpening his comedic timing and skills by doing StandUp Comedy at various venues around Los Angeles. He is also Producing a Police Drama Movie which he wrote the ScreenPlay for.
