An estimated 70% of crop acreage in the U.S.is directly or indirectly impacted by Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs), according to the program’s founding organization, the American Society of Agronomy. Joseph Witzke of Water Right Technologies (WRT) has become a Certified Crop Adviser, credentials that have been given to only 13,500 agriculture professionals. Adding a CCA certification gives Joseph increased credibility as an agronomist and shows clients his level of commitment to creating sustainable crop management programs that mitigate environmental degradation.
Of those certified, Joseph is one of 400 CCAs residing in California, providing growers with the expertise needed to meet production and environmental challenges statewide and beyond.
Established in 1992, the American Society of Agronomy developed the CCA program to set the standard for professionalism by agronomists in the U.S. and Canada. The CCA certification program has developed into the largest, most recognized agricultural certification program in North America, and is expanding its reach to agricultural centers across the globe, with operations now also in India, Mexico, and Argentina. Joseph Witzke comments on his newly certified title, “It’s an honor to be one of four-hundred CCA members in California. Being certified allows me to use my years of experience to educate farmers on agronomic practices. If I can help make a difference, I feel like my job is complete. ”
Ag professionals prefer to work with CCA’s due to their recognized education, expertise, and experience to make a difference. This certification is specified for consultants like Joseph that spend their time advising growers about agronomic practices and meet the standards laid out by the program, which is already in the services that WRT provides. CCA certification is administered locally by 37 state/regional/provincial boards throughout the U.S. and Canada, overseen by the International Certified Crop Adviser Board.
To earn licensing as a Certified Crop Adviser, Joseph passed international and local CCA board exams, alongside years of work with WRT, and degree in Biological Sciences from California State University, Stanislaus. The rigorous exams tested for Joseph’s well-rounded knowledge in nutrient management, soil and water management, integrated pest management and crop management.
CCA certification protects the public and the crop adviser profession, and is a voluntary professional enhancement that Joseph has added to his career credentials, and to the WRT name.As a Certified Crop Adviser, Joseph follows a code of ethics that exemplifies the standard of behavior which Water Rights Technologies brings to their clients and the public. The CCA program has earned the respect of industry professionals, academia, and government, including recognition the USDA as agricultural experts in crop insurance claims, increasing the scope of services which WRT provides.
