Growing up with an organic farmer as a father and an artist as a mother, and a beauty queen as a grandmother, it’s no surprise that Sita Thompson would be inspired to launch her own eco-venture into the world of fashion. Learning to sew at the age of 11, Sita’s future was set out from that first McCall pattern she made. At age 17 she moved to Europe for school and to intern with Irene Dill, a couture designer for her label Issue. It was during her internship experience that she realized one day she would have her own brand.
A woman with many talents, Thompson moved to India to work in film, television and continue her dance career. Her desire to launch her own fashion label was again inspired after connecting with the unique and beautiful fabrics from India, as well as her discovery of the elegant way Indian women reflected their feminine essence.
Her first collection was 100% inspired by the sari and titled Indian Princess Meets Classic America. Shortly after Sita became recognized by JD Institute of Fashion Technology in Bombay for her contribution to fashion in cinema and was appointed as one of the board of directors for the Asian Fashion Council. She also quickly became a fashion icon and brand ambassador to India for her humanitarian work across the country.
In 2003, former Prime Minister Narsima Rao awarded Sita the National Citizen Overseas Award, under cultural development for promoting Indo-American relations and culture. In 2008, Sita launched SITA Couture. The S.U. Zariwalla family was instrumental in initiating Thompson into the world of fashion.
Today, her label SITA Couture, reflect how pop culture influences art, society and fashion. Her line continues to perpetuate beauty, strength and self-empowerment within every style cut. The line is designed to inspire confidence, enhance natural beauty, fuel the feminine essence and reflect the authenticity of a woman’s full expression.
Sita’s on camera and dance career paved the way for her unique eye for style, and the importance of fit. “Our pieces look great from every angle; we place equal importance on comfort and versatility”.
Thompson places a high value on empowering women with each collection. “We infuse positive energy into each design and choice of eco-friendly fabric, and we take pride in representing a woman’s every mood within each collection”. The SITA Couture brand becomes a lifestyle for her clients where every season tells a story.
Sita is a sought after guest lecturer at Fashion Schools around the globe, and is a member of Women of the Green Generation (WOTGG). She currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
