Psalmist Rayna Brown is Today’s Honoree

DerrickRayna(Psalm 9:1-2)  1 I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart;  I will tell of all Your marvelous works.  2 I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.

The mandate given to Rayna Brown is to “Connect People to the Heart of God”.

Rayna Brown is an anointed, energetic praise filled woman who believes “worship is what she was created to do”.  She is a worship leader, psalmist, songwriter, vocal coach, conference speaker, choir directress and up and coming author born and raised in Long Island, New York.

From the tender age of 12, Rayna has always had a heart for music which grew into a passion for worship that has fueled her desire to bring nations closer to Christ. Most of Rayna’s teenage years were years of molding and traveling the United States as a vocalist and directress with her mother, the legendary Pastor Mary L. Sharpe.  She remembers traveling with her mother and siblings all over the United States and abroad to Italy, Austria and Trinidad as a vocalist and the Assistant Directress of the award winning Voices of Hope Choir and Long Island Voices Foundation Mass Choir of Long Island.  Her years of ministry with her mother have been the foundation and fire for Rayna’s heart of worship.

After many years of singing locally and touring the United States, Rayna began to mature in Christ and understand her gift and call as a Worship Leader. Rayna attended Five Towns College to grow in her gift of music and then attended Nyack College & Theological Seminary to begin a true understanding of Christ.  Life was no longer about singing.  She lost her desire to “sing” and gained a passion to worship with her musical gifts.  Rayna desires for people to feel the presence of the Lord like she does.  Rayna drinks from a “deeper well” than singing.  “Worship is the air I breathe”.  Her voice has been said to be “captivating” and carry a “heavy anointing”.  She recalls being told “your voice commanded me to worship” and she says “my heart crumbled – I can’t believe God has entrusted me with such a gift”.  She has found that to be a gift that requires a heart and lifestyle that is committed to prayer and time in the Word of God.

As a singer and Assistant Directress of the award winning and renown Voices of Hope and Long Island Voices Foundation Mass Choir of Long Island, New York under the direction of her mother, Rev. Mary L. Sharpe, Rayna has been blessed to minister for the Suffolk County Legislature, appear on ABC News as 1stplace winners of Pathmark Competition, appear on the Today Show as Winners of Tri-State McDonald’s GospelFest, achieve the Gold Cup as winners at the 15th Concorso Internazionale Di Canto Corale Competition in Verona, Italy, minister at Lincoln Center and EAB Plaza Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremonies, Tour to Italy, Vienna Austria and throughout the United States, minister on the Premier Cruise Line to Nassau Bahamas, perform as backup choir for Whitney Houston and Marc Anthony at All Star Holiday Gala in New York City, participate in concerts for several Foster Care Agencies on Long Island such as Little Flower Children Services, Wading River, appear on Nationally Renown Bobby Jones Birthday Celebration, minister in concert at many Churches, Schools and Colleges.

Rayna has a heart for the nation and ministry to believers as well as unbelievers.  As such, she served for several years as the President of the Youth Ministry of Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Central Islip, New York and as the Youth Minister of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church for 3 Years.

In 2005 she met her husband, Tyrone Brown, who played drums for her music ministry.  The two married in 2010 and committed to their music ministry together.  Planting their roots at a local church, in Brooklyn, New York, Hope Christian Center where the Pastor is Rev. Tyrone Stevenson, Rayna began leading the praise and worship ministry.  The experience has given Rayna an opportunity to minister her own songs with the praise team and congregation.  Receiving a warm reception, they have decided to record their first album to be released in the Spring of 2013.

As she prepares for the release of the debut album, Rayna has a distinct desire to raise up bold and powerful worshipers through teachings that promote devotion to God and obedience to His word.  Accordingly, she is currently finalizing a conference curriculum for Praise & Worship Leaders and she is preparing to travel the Nation to teach it.  Rayna is also currently continuing her theological and music studies and is patiently awaiting the finishing of the work God is doing in her.

Rayna has also founded Rayna Brown Ministries (R.B.M.) where she is on a mission to worship God by using the gifts of the Minstrel that He has bestowed upon her to go unto the Nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Her mission is to connect people to the Heart of God, bring the unbeliever into the knowledge of Christ and encourage the believer through various resources including but not limited to worship experiences through music, songs, books and musical development as a Minstrel.  Every product and service is designed to create worshipers that will chase after the presence of God.

She has fused her gift of worship with her desire to save souls and through her unique style of worship she is leading many into another dimension of worship and understanding of His sustaining Word.  Her gift of worship has opened the minds of many so that they may hear the Word of the Lord and draw close to Him.
