Ben’s background, self esteem and high character traits actually were inspired by his mother, Janet Fishman Newman. She died 11 days before his eighth birthday from a rare disease, amyloidosis. This left a cavernous hole in his universe. With her days numbered, Ben’s mom displayed an extremely positive attitude.
She wrote a journal about her experiences prior to her death. Ben highlights the diary in his first book, “Fight The Good Fight”. His mother’s dreams and positive attitude encouraged Ben to complete his education as he put himself through college and went on to success in financial services. Over time he has come to realize that his mother was demonstrating a very important truth – our circumstances in life are much less significant than our responses to them. Her strength, her love, her work ethic and her legacy live on through him, through the family he has created, and through the work he does.
