United States of America Olympian Julia Clukey is Today’s Honoree

Imagine an Olympian that has been training since she was 12, but has not only stayed committed to her career, but also to her community, that’s Olympian Julia Clukey. As part of the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association’s responsibility initiative, Julia has visited several high schools across the state to talk about the importance of good decision making and responsibility. Since 2010, she has traveled over 2,000 miles to visit 20 high schools and has personally reached over 6,000 Maine students.

This past summer Julia and the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors partnered with Kennebec Valley YMCA to host Julia Clukey’s Camp for Girls at Camp KV, a new 10 day summer camp in Readfield, Maine. In 2011, Julia was named the Home Court Hero Award Winner by the Maine Red Claws D-League basketball team for her community work. Julia Clukey, age 27, was born and raised in Augusta, Maine and is a member of the US National Luge Team and competed in the most recent winter Olympics in Vancouver (2010). Clukey finished 17th in the 2010 Olympic Games.

This past winter, Julia finished 3rd in the most recent US National Championship. She is among only four women named to the U.S. national luge team for the fall. Julia has announced plans to compete in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
