Mildred is an inspiration to everyone she meets. She is strong, courageous, determined and has a warm heart. She is a domestic abuse survivor and the ex-wife of convicted “D.C. Sniper” John Allen Muhammad. Despite the horrific things she’s been through, she maintains a positive attitude and she decided to use her own trauma to do good for others
She founded a nonprofit organization that gives other survivors the resources they need to go beyond just surviving to truly living. And she does it all with her own money! Mildred Muhammad is an author and international spokesperson on domestic violence. Mildred is the founder of After the Trauma, a nonprofit organization that helps domestic abuse survivors to rebuild their lives.
Mildred works hand-in-hand with individuals and safe agencies all over the U.S. to provide survivors with the resources they need to be safe — such as relocation to a new city or state, job placement and legal assistance. Mildred has authored two books on domestic violence.
The first is a tool survivors can use to build an escape plan and begin the healing process. It’s called: “A Survivor’s Journal: A Journey Within Yourself to Unlock Doors That Suppress Internal Development.”
Mildred’s second book, “Scared Silent: When the One You Love Becomes the One You Fear,” chronicles her life with her ex-husband John Allen Muhammad, the convicted “D.C. Sniper” of 2002.
